For those of you with super-deluxe cable or satellite, CSTV has proclaimed the week of June 25th " as The Women's Movement on CSTV." That is, the station will help celebrate the 35th Anniversary of Title IX by airing special programming. This includes two installments of the One2One Series featuring interviews with Kay Yow (the head basketball coach at North Carolina State who is battling breast cancer) and Nawal El Moutawakel (the first African and Muslim Olympic gold-medal winner). Although I am unable to verify it on the ESPN.com website, I have read on a couple of different websites that ESPN will be airing a Title IX 35th Anniversary Special on June 23 at 5 pm ET.
On the one hand, it is nice that the Anniversary of Title IX is receiving television programming to commemorate it. On the other hand, it is difficult to find information about when and where this programming is being aired. And, more importantly, the programming is not accessible to everyone. Title IX has opened up opportunities for many of us. Unfortunately, mainstream television continues to be hesitant in providing similar opportunities.
