The LA Times reports that the Deparment of Education's Office for Civil Rights is investigating the William S. Hart Union High School District upon allegations that softball fields and locker room at its three high schools are inferior to boys' facilities. At one high school, Saugus, repairs finally began this year to the softball field that players haven't been able to use for last three. Another, Hart, has no softball facility, so the team plays at an off-campus park. At the third, Canyon, softball players share a field with the freshman football team. According to the article, each schools' baseball fields, in contrast "are considered high-quality facilities."
A district official quoted in the story says he doesn't believe the district has a problem.
